TWYLA THARP: 50th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts will mount a double
bill of premieres celebrating Twyla Tharps 50th anniversary. Performance
dates are Oct. 1-3 at the Annenberg, with the ever-popular FANFARE kicking
off the program, followed by two new works, PRELUDES AND FUGUES, set to
J.S. Bachs Well-Tempered Clavier. and YOWZIE, set to
a jazzy score by Henry Butler and Steve Bernstein.
Tharp, who has choreographed not only full-length ballets but Hollywood
films, TV specials, Broadway shows and figure-skating routines over the
years, is one of the giants of the modern dance world. Her 50th anniversary
tour is co-sponsored by the Annenberg, the Auditorium Theatre and Ravinia
Festival in Chicago, the Joyce Theatre in NY, the Kennedy Center in Wash.
