ROYAL BALLET/MAYERLING
After a 24-year absence from Los Angeles, Great Britains prestigious
Royal Ballet returns to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at the Music Center,
July 5-7, with MAYERLING, a three-act work depicting scandal and murder
in the 19th century Austro-Hungarian Empire. Based on the true story of
the deaths in 1889 of Austro-Hungarian Crown Prince Rudolf and his teenage
mistress May Vetsera, and set in the sumptuous backdrop of a Viennese
palace, MAYERLING makes its exploration of the human condition relevant
to our times, said Rachel Moore, president and CEO of the Music
Center.

This intense, pulsating ballet with live orchestra was first created for
The Royal Ballet by Kenneth MacMillan in 1978 and is regarded by many
as among his finest works. Dancers include Thiago Soares as Prince Rudolf;
Natalia Osipova, Sarah Lamb and Lauren Cuthbertson as Mary Vetsera; and
Francesca Hayward as Princess Stephanie.
On Friday
July 12 and Saturday 13, The Royal Ballet and Glorya Kaufman Presents
Dance at The Music Center, as well as Company Wayne McGregor, will mount
ADES & McGREGOR: A DANCE COLLABORATION. With music written and conducted
by Thomas Ades, the recital will feature the L.A. Philharmonic Orchestra.
The recital includes the world premiere of The Dante Project (Inferno),
a new work created for The Royal Ballet by McGregor.
