HEIDI DUCKLER DANCE: THE CHANDELIER
On April 15-18 The Wallis will present the Heidi Duckler Dance companys
site-specific work, THE CHANDELIER.
Based on a novel of the same name by Brazilian writer Clarice Lispector,
THE CHANDELIER will be performed throughout the grounds of The Wallis,
culminating in the Lovelace Studio Theater. Director/choreographer Duckler
will animate the interior monologues and devise characters from the odd
fragments of dialogue to create a moving portrait of a family living amid
the ruins of a colonial society. Through layers of imagery, acts of repetition,
and audience engagement, THE CHANDELIER explores the contrasting ideas
of impermanence and the irrevocable.
THE MINGHELLA PROJECT
Another important dance recital at The Wallis, THE MINGHELLA PROJECT,
will take place April 18-25 in the Bram Goldsmith Theater.
The Wallis
first full-produced dance program, THE MINGHELLA PROJECT was written by
the late writer/director Anthony Minghella, who was commissioned by choreographer/director
Jonathan Lunn to write a series of texts for dance.
The four works they created spanning twenty years will be presented together
for the first time as THE MINGHELLA PROJECT in collaboration with The
Wallis 2019/2020 company-in-residence, Bodytraffic.
