EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL 2009

EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND -- The popular and illustrious Edinburgh International Festival 2009 will offer a wide range of music beginning Aug. 15 and running through Sept. 6.

Among the artists and companies appearing at Usher Hall are vocalist Sir Willard White (with Eugene Asti at the piano), the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (with Paul Daniel conducting), Orchestre des Champs-Elysees, Philharmonia Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Zurich's Tonhalle-Orchester (playing Brahms, Berio and Mahler's 4th), National Youth Choir of Scotland, and The Mantovani Choir (joined by The English Baroque Soloists).
    

    
Chamber music and solo performers will grace the stage of The Queen's Hall, Aug. 15-Sept. 11. Among the stellar attractions are Hebrides Ensemble (with baritone Christopher Maltman), countertenor Bejun Mehta, Quatuor Mosaiques and pianist Elisabeth Leonskaja.

Concerto Caledonia (and guests) will explore the musical scene in 18th-century Scotland on four separate evenings in August. Held in informal settings at The Hub, the Caledonia Sessions will run an hour each, with such artists as Alasdair Roberts, Patsy Seddon and Katharine Fuge participating.
