Pleased To Meet You

Review by Willard Manus

The piano is very much front and center on PLEASED TO MEET YOU, another Justin Time release on which the Jones boys, Oliver and Hank, play duets on most of the eleven tunes. Dedicated to the memory of Oscar Peterson, the CD features compositions by the late OP--"Blues For Big Scotia" and "Cakewalk." Oliver and Hank pay additional tribute with "I Remember OP," written by Oliver. Hank goes solo on "Mark's Mood" and "Lonely Woman."

PLEASED TO MEET YOU was recorded in a studio setting at the 2008 Festival International de Jazz Montreal, where the Joneses were making featured appearances. Brandi Disterheft on bass and Jim Doxas on drums backed them up on three cuts. The joy Oliver and Hank felt while working together is communicated palpably on this superb album.
