Classical Music News for May/June 2015:



The Lafayette String Quartet, an all-female group featuring Ann Elliott-Goldschmid (violin), Joanna Hood (viola), Sharon Stanis (violin) and Pamela Highbaugh Aloni (cello), will perform works by Beethoven and Dvorak from May 18-20 at the Music Guild’s three
separate venues. The Belgian-born pianist Steven Vanhauwaert will join forces with the Quartet on the Dvorak composition, “Piano Quintet in A Major, Op. 81.”

Lafayette String Quartet has been making music since 1986; in addition to their concert work, the four musicians also maintain individual careers as solo and chamber-music performers, teachers and adjudicators.

LSQ has won prizes at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and the Portsmouth International String Quartet Competition.

One of the most glorious choral works ever composed, Beethoven’s MISSA SOLEMNIS, will be performed at the Edinburgh International Festival on Saturday 29 August at Usher Hall. Robin Ticciati will conduct the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, backed up by the Edinburgh Festival Chorus. The featured singers are soprano Genia Kuhmeier, mezzo Alice Coote, tenor Michael Schade and bass Georg Zeppenfeld.
