LOS ANGELES
FIATO AND
AVALON STRING QUARTETS
The Music
Guild, now in its 75th season, has announced that the Fiato String Quartet
and the Avalon String Quartet will give Los Angeles recitals this March
and April, respectively.
Fiato String Quartet (which includes mezzo-soprano Jessie Shulman) will
perform works by Beethoven, Respighi and Shostakovich, March 4-6 at 8pm.
Avalon String Quartet will perform works by Mendelssohn, Shostakovich
and Beethoven, April 15-17 at 8pm.
The Music Guild's concerts take place on consecutive nights at three different
venues: University Synagogue, Brentwood; Daniel Recital Hall, Cal State
Long Beach; and Adat Ari El Temple, N. Hollywood.
Complimentary coffee and pastries are served on Monday and Wednesdays,
7.30 to 8pm, and at intermission.
For tickets and information call (310) 558-3500 or visit themusicguild.org
On March 17 at 7 pm at Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Master Chorale will
present Maurice Durufile's REQUIEM, OP. 9. Associate Conductor Jenny Wong
will lead the performance. She will also conduct Dale Trumbore's HOW TO
GO ON as a companion piece to the Requiem.

REQUIEM, OP. 9, the composer's evocation of the essence of Gregorian style,
was a particular favorite of previous Master Chorale Music Directors, Roger
Wagner and Paul Salamunovich, both of whom were contemporaries of the composer.
Instilled with emotion, the Requiem leaves listeners with a lingering mood
of optimism.

|
Trumbore's "secular requiem" HOW TO GO ON won the 2017 ASCAP
Young Composer's Award. A setting of poems by Barbara Crooker, Amy Fleury
and Laura Foley, the piece finds beauty and release in the embrace of
everyday life, ultimately offering up solace.
