Fans of
Latin jazz should check out DUOLOGUE, the new CD which showcases the work
of Alfredo Rodriguez and Pedrito Martinez, two Cuban-born musicians who
first teamed up on the formers debut album for Mack Avenue, The
Invasion Parade. Martinezs stirring vocals and masterful drumming
were heard on two tracks.
Now the countrymen have collaborated again, this time on a superb album
for which they have written eight of the eleven tunes. Rodriguez, who
plays piano, Rhodes and keyboards, believes that what makes them special
is that I come from the folkloric side and Alfredo from the classical
side of Afro-Cuban music. You put those things together and
you come out with an extraordinary sound.
No argument there. DUOLOGUE is packed with fiery, dynamic Latin jazz,
played and sung with consummate professionalism. Its no wonder that
Quincy Jones went out of his way to mentor Rodriguez and Martinez...and
to produce this praiseworthy CD. (Mackavenue.com)
