BRYN TERFEL STARS IN VERDI'S FALSTAFF

Called "a force of nature" by the Sunday Telegraph (UK), the inimitable bass-baritone Bryn Terfel will make his first staged appearance with Los Angeles Opera in his signature portrayal of Sir John Falstaff in Verdi's final masterpiece, FALSTAFF. The opera will run during May & June at the Music Center, in repertory with Richard Strauss' beloved romantic comedy DER ROSENKAVALIER.

The latter production will be directed by Academy Award-winner Maximilian Schell, who made his local debut in 2001 with Lohengrin. Teamed up with him is production designer Gottfried Helnwein, who is an internationally recognized painter, draftsman, photographer, muralist, sculptor and performance artist. More information about him can be found on his website, helnwein.com

Heading the cast of ROSENKAVALIER are soprano Adrianne Pieczonka, mezzo-soprano Alice Coote and bass Kurt Rydl.

Joining Terfel in FALSTAFF are soprano Kallen Esperian, mezzo Jane Henschel, tenor Daniil Shtoda and soprano Celena Shafer.

Kent Nagano conducts both operas.
