LA Opera's 2009/10 season opens with a repeat production of Gaetano Donizetti's romantic comedy, L'ELISIR D'AMORE (THE ELIXIR OF LOVE). Stephen Lawless, who has directed the opera in Los Angeles twice before, will be at the helm once again, backed up by conductor James Conlon. Performances will run from Sept. 12-30 at the Dorothy Chandler Music Pavilion.

In THE ELIXIR OF LOVE the simple farm worker Nemorino (Giuseppe Filianoti) sets out to win the heart of the wealthy landowner Adina (Nino Machaidze) from his rival, the dashing Sergeant Belcore (Nathan Gunn), with a little help from Dr. Dulcamara's miraculous elixir of love. Others in the cast include Ruggero Raimondi and Vallerie Vinzant. Scenery and costumes are by Johann Engels, with lighting by Joan Sullivan-Genthe. The associate conductor/chorus master is Grant Gershon.
