for January/February 2015: JULIETTE BINOCHE PLAYS ANTIGONE Celebrated actress Juliette Binoche will take on the role of Antigone in a new translation (by poet Anne Carson) of Sophocles classic tragedy. Directed by Ivo van Hove, ANTIGONE will open the 2015 the Edinburgh International Festival. Performances are August 9-22 at Kings Theatre. The play is a co-production of EIT, the Barbican, and Les Theatres de la Ville, Luxembourg. Speaking about ANTIGONE, van Hove said, While searching for a play for our first collaboration, Juliette and I quickly agreed that Antigone would be the right artistic challenge for both of us. The play itself has the explosiveness of a nuclear bomb. It deals with all possible relationships: man against woman, political against ethical leadership, the laws of society against the right of the individual, family and its unbreakable blood ties.
