SMUIN BALLET
Smuin Ballet/SF, known for its classic technique and virtuosity, will make an appearance Jan. 30, 2002 at The Alex theatre in Glendale.

Headed by Michael Smuin, former artistic director of San Francisco Ballet, the Smuin was founded in 1994 and dedicated to the production of works that are both classical and uniquely American.

Among Smuin's most popular works are The Christmas Ballet, a Nutcracker
alternative, Frankie and Johnny, Romanze and Suenos Latinos, a "Cubist
bullfight." Smuin also created To the Beatles, a dance work set to 12
immortal songs by the legendary band.

Among Smuin's many Broadway credits is Sophisticated Ladies, for which
he received two Tony nominations.

HIGHWAYS ATTRACTIONS

Highways Performance Space has scheduled three avant-garde dance works
for January: Hae Kyung Lee and Dancers, Jan. 18 & 19; Jack Kirven (Jan
24-26); and The Bridge Dance Theatre (Jan 31-Feb 2). Lee's company will
be joined by Liquid Skin Ensemble in the premiere of a new solo dance.
