MOVIE BOOK REVIEW by Willard Manus

Applause Theatre & Cinema Books has just released SCREEN WORLD--2006 FILM ANNUAL, edited by John Willis and Barry Monush. Volume 57 in a continuing series, the ANNUAL lists just about every significant American and foreign film released in 2005, illustrated (on glossy paper) with more than a thousand color and b&w photos. Other features include credits, release dates, biographical notes, information on the year's Academy Award winners and nominees, a breakdown of promising new screen personalities, and an obituary section in which tribute is paid to such recently deceased luminaries as Anne Bancroft, Eddie Albert, Geraldine Fitzgerald, June Haver and Virgina Mayo.

The handsome 466-page tome can also boast of a comprehensive index. It's no wonder that one film critic called SCREEN WORLD "the handiest, most useful chronicle of a year spent in the dark...a book every film lover should have."
