DANCE THEATRE OF HARLEM

LOS ANGELES -- The Music Center will present the Dance Theatre of Harlem on Jan. 3 & 4 when the company mounts the West Coast premiere of Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer's St Louis Woman: A Blues Ballet (music by Arlen, choreography by Michael Smuin). The ballet premiered last summer at Lincoln Center.

Founded in 1969 by Arthur Mitchell and Karen Shook, Dance Theatre of Harlem has become a leading dance institution encompassing a classically American dance company, a leading arts center and Dancing Through the Barriers, a national and international education and community outreach program.
