KENT NAGANO'S FINAL APPEARANCE WITH LA OPERA
LOS ANGELES -- Kent Nagano will conduct the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra and Chorus for the last seven times when the company mounts its esteemed production of Mozart's THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO, directed by Ian Judge. Performances are March 25-April 9. Nagano, who has been music director at LA Opera since 2001, is taking up similar duties at the Bavarian State Opera (Munich) and at the Montreal Symphony.
Starring in FIGARO are bass Ildar Abdrazakov amd soprano Barbara Bonney in their company debuts. Soprano Adrianne Pieczonka and bass David Pittsinger return as the Countess and Count Almaviva, respectively. Lucy Schaufer is Cherubino; Michael Gallup, Doctor Bartolo; Greg Fedderly, Don Basilio.

In other news, LA Opera announced that Karen Ashley will head the Domingo/Thornton Young Artist Program, scheduled to begin operations at the start of the 2006/07 season.
Ashley has more than fifteen years of experience in identifying talented young singers and nurturing their careers, including eleven years with Columbia Artists Management. A graduate of the S.F. University Conservatory of Music, Ashley has also been a professional dancer, singer and actress.
Prelininary auditions will be held in L.A. April 10-12, 2006. Final audditions, to be judged by Placido Domingo and incoming Music Director James Conlon, will be held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on April 13.

Los Angeles Opera also announced the renewal of Placido Domingo's contract as General Director for the next five years. This marks his third multi-year contract with the company. Domingo's contract extends through 2011, the year that will commemorate his 25th anniversary with LA Opera.
