AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE

LOS ANGELES -- American Ballet Theatre (ABT) returned to the Music Center July 12-15 with two programs. Program A (with live orchestra) offered Symphonie Concertante by George Balanchine; Don Quixote Pas de Deux by Kevin McKenzie, after Marius Petipa and Alexander Gorsky; The Sleeping Beauty Pas de Deux by Kevin McKenzie, after Marius Petipa; and Rodeo by Agnes DeMille.
    

    
Program B (with live orchestra) featured a full-length presentation of Othello by Lar Lubovitch, with music by Oscar-winning composer Elliott Goldenthal.

ABT, under McKenzie's artistic direction, is considered the USA's national ballet company.

CHINA PERFORMING ARTS TROUPE

LOS ANGELES -- The 21-member Henan Province Performing Arts Ensemble will present, on July 19 at 8 p.m., a program of four traditional Chinese arts at Topanga's Theatricum Botanicum.

The special evening will showcase Kung Fu with the Shaolin Monks, Tai Chi, Peking Opera and an Ensemble of traditional musical instruments. The single performance at Theatricum Botanicum will be the group's only appearance in L.A. this year.
