THE EVANGELIST

LOS ANGELES -- This summer, Los Angeles Ballet will premiere THE EVANGELIST, a spiritual duet originally choreographed by Lar Lubovitch with music by Charles Ives. The dance piece will be seen at the Alex Theatre (Glendale), Freud Playhouse UCLA, Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center and Irvine Barclay Theatre, on a bill also featuring Balanchine's Allegro Brillante (chreographed by Jennifer Backhaus) and Bournonville's Napoli/Pas de Six and Tarentella. (The Irvine appearance, on May 17, will see Balanchine's Who Cares? replacing the Bournonville dances).
    

    
THE EVANGELIST was first danced by Colleen Neary and Thordal Christensen back in 1982 when they were principal dancers with Pacific Northwest Ballet. Now the couple, presently serving as artistic directors of Los Angeles Ballet, are staging the piece themselves. THE EVANGELIST is based on the life of the infamous Aimee Semple McPherson.
