LA Opera's 2010/2011 season commences with the world premiere of an eagerly anticipated new opera by composer and librettist, Daniel Catan. Based on the Academy Award-winning Italian film of the same name that became a world-wide hit, IL POSTINO tells the story of Marco, a shy young postman in a tiny Italian fishing village who discovers the courage to pursue his dreams during his daily deliveries to his only customer, a famous poet (based on Pablo Neruda).

IL POSTINO stars Placido Domingo as the exiled poet; tenor Charles Castronovo sings the role of postman Mario Ruapollo. The cast also includes Amanda Squitieri, Cristina Gallardo-Domas, Vladimir Chernov and Nancy Fabiola-Herrera.

IL POSTINO will be conducted by Grant Gershon. The new production is directed by Ron Daniels and will be performed between Sept. 23-Oct. 16 at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, 135 N. Grand Ave. Call 213-972-8001 or visit
