for September/October 2010 IL POSTINO (THE POSTMAN) LA Opera's 2010/2011 season commences with the world premiere of an eagerly anticipated new opera by composer and librettist, Daniel Catan. Based on the Academy Award-winning Italian film of the same name that became a world-wide hit, IL POSTINO tells the story of Marco, a shy young postman in a tiny Italian fishing village who discovers the courage to pursue his dreams during his daily deliveries to his only customer, a famous poet (based on Pablo Neruda). IL POSTINO stars Placido Domingo as the exiled poet; tenor Charles Castronovo sings the role of postman Mario Ruapollo. The cast also includes Amanda Squitieri, Cristina Gallardo-Domas, Vladimir Chernov and Nancy Fabiola-Herrera. IL POSTINO will be conducted by Grant Gershon.
