One of Italy's premier ballet companies, Teatro alla Scala, will unveil its production of ROMEO AND JULIET at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in July as part of the Dance at the Music Center series.

The company's history is interwoven with the birth of ballet itself, from the renaissance courts of Italy to the celebrated opera house from which it derives its name. Throughout its existence, the company has had long-lasting, successful associations with some of the world's most notable choreographers and dancers.

Performing Sergei Prokofiev's ROMEO AND JULIET will be prima ballerina Diana Vishneva. Choreography is by Kenneth MacMillan (with live orchestra). Teatro all Scala is headed by artistic director Elisabetta Terabust.

Call 213-972-3008 or visit for tickets and information. The Chandler Pavilion is located at 135 N. Grand Ave.

Other summer dance highlights in So-Cal include American Ballet's production of a new piece by Twyla Tharp and film composer Danny Elfman, Rabbits and Rouge, at Orange County Performing Arts Center (Aug 6-10).

Redcat will showcase new works from Cloud Eye Control, Ledges and Bones Dance Project and Rosanna Gamson/World Wide, among other groups, July 17-Aug. 2.

Culture Shock Los Angeles will premiere a hiphop work inspired by Ray Bradbury's novel, Fahrenheit 451, at John Anson Ford Ampitheater, July 21.
