CELEBRATING FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN
LOS ANGELES
-- The Goethe-Institut will honor the work of Franz Joseph Haydn with
a concert and reception on Sunday May 31st at 6 pm. The affair is part
of a ten-concert piano sonata series sponsored by the Ralph M. Parsons
Foundation and presented concurrently with the Haydn tribute of the New
England Conservatory.
The Austrian
composer is recognized as a dominant force in the development of the musical
style of the classical era. The program on the actual day of Haydn's demise
includes two piano sonatas in G Major, Hoboken XVI:39 and CV Major, Hoboken
XVI:50 performed by pianist Bruce Brubaker, with live electronic sounds
by Laura Karpman and Nora Kroll-Rosenbaum. The concert will take place
at Los Angeles County Museum's Bing Theatre and is free of charge.
The reception,
which will be held at the nearby Goethe-Institut, 5750 Wilshire Blvd.,
