September/October 2009 SCOTTISH BALLET EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND -- The Scottish Ballet Co. will present three dance works at the 2009 Edinburgh International Festival from September 4-7: SCENES DE BALLET, WORKWITHINWORK and PETRUSHKA. The latter, with music by Igor Stravinsky and choreography by Ian Spink, is a world premiere. Stravinsky also contributed the music to SCENES DE BALLET, which Frederick Ashton choreographed some years ago as a direct response to the elegant sophistication of Stravinsky's score. It was Ashton's favorite of his own works. WORKWITHINWORK was created by William Forsythe, former director of Frankfurt Ballet. The piece unites the dancers' classical discipline and experimental playfulness using Luciano Bedrio's haunting Duetti for two violins. PETRUSHKA tells the story of a Russian puppet brought to life by a wizard's enchanted flute. Australian-British choreographer Spink has put his personal slant on the ballet. All performances are at The Edinburgh Playhouse. For tickets and information call +44 (0) 131-473-2000 or visit eif.co.uk |
