for September/October 2013 LOS ANGELES NEWS EINSTEIN ON THE BEACH For the first time in its 27-year-old history, Los Angeles Opera will mount an opera by Philip Glass, EINSTEIN ON THE BEACH. Directed by Robert Wilson, the opera will have three performances, Oct. 11-13 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. LA Opera's 2013-14 season will include a total of seven mainstage productions, up from its reduced schedule of six in the past few seasons, presenting few new operas or original productions while it paid off the debts incurred when it produced its costly "Ring" cycle in 2010. EINSTEIN ON THE BEACH has a running time of more than four hours without intermission. Audiences will be allowed to leave and re-enter throughout the performance. The non-narrative opera will be presented in collaboration with the Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA. (Call 213-972-8001 or visit laopera.com) |
