EDINBURGH,
SCOTLAND -- Edward Elgar's THE DREAM OF GERONTIUS, with Sir Mark Elder
conducting, will be mounted on Sat. Sept. 5 at the Edinburgh International
Festival's Usher Hall. The lead singers, mezzo soprano Alice Coote, tenor
Paul Groves and bass Iain Paterson, will be backed by the National Youth
Choir of Scotland and the Edinburgh Festival Chorus, led by Christopher
Bell.
These wellknown artists have been marshalled to perform Elgar's masterpiece.
This intense work, a story of spiritual discovery told by Elgar with moving
personal faith and conviction is also quintessentially British from the
spine-tingling opening to the passionate symphonic climax.
