THE PEONY PAVILION

EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND -- The National Ballet of China will present the European premiere of THE PEONY PAVILION, August 13-15, at the Edinburgh International Festival 2011. The full-scale ballet production with lavish sets and sumptuous costumes has been adapted by Li Liuyi from one of the most popular stories in Chinese literature, a deeply romantic tale of the power of love in triumphing over death. The choreographer is Fei Bo.

The National Ballet of China Symphony Orchestra will perform Guo Wenjing's original score, which incorporates themes from Debussy's Daphnis et Chloe, Holst's The Planets, and Prokofiev's Scythian Suite. Zhang Yi is the conductor.
