On tap at
L.A. Opera is a production of A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE starring operatic
superstar, Renee Fleming.
Back in 1998, Fleming appeared in San Francisco Opera's world premiere
of STREETCAR. Now, on May 18, 21 and 24, Fleming will reprise her role
of Blanche DuBois at the Dorothy Chandler pavilion in a semi-staged concert
format. Patrick Summers will conduct
Andre Previn's score. The cast also includes Ryan McKinny as Stanley Kowalski,
Stacey Tappan as Stella, and Anthony Dean Griffey as Mitch, a role he
created at the world premiere.
"The role of Blanche DuBois is always a thrilling challenge,"
said soprano Fleming. "She is an iconic character of the American
stage, and as realized for the opera by my cherished friend and Hollywood
legend, Andre Previn. I think she's compelling in new ways, for new audiences."
