LONG BEACH
OPERAS NEW SEASON
Desire, passion and corruption are the themes of Long Beach Operas
2015 season, which will commence Jan. 24 and Feb. 1 with a production
of a new opera by Tobias Picker and Gene Scheer, THERESE RAQUIN (based
on the Emile Zola novel).
It will be followed March 21 and 29 by MARILYN FOREVER, from the team
of Gavin Bryars and Marilyn Bowering. LBO recently announced the receipt
of an NEA grant of $30,000 to support the U.S. premiere of this production.
LBO was the only Long Beach-based organization to receive an Art Works
award and was among only 37 opera companies nationwide to receive such
a grant.
Inspired by the life of the movie star Marilyn Monroe, the opera will
be performed at the Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro, CA.
HYDROGEN JUKEBOX, a new Philip Glass opera based on the poetry of Allen
Ginsberg, will make its local debut on May 30, June 6 & 7.
