Classical Music News for September/October 2013:

THE MUSIC GUILD'S 69th YEAR

The 69th season of The Music Guild begins October 21 with the critically acclaimed Aspen String Trio joined by pianist Micah Yui.

Concerts at The Music Guild have been presented in Los Angeles uninterrupted since the end of World War II. And they continue to be a major force in keeping classical music in the classroom by bringing ensembles into elementary schools and providing master classes to students at CSULB and The Colburn School. They also have an ongoing programs to provide musical instruments to students to pursue musical studies. Their newest program, the Piano Adoption Program has provided over 100 pianos to schools and educators from persons who are downsizing their homes. This is a free serviced provided by The Music Guild.

This year, in addition to concerts at University Synagogue on Mondays and CSULB on Tuesdays, The Music Guild will have Wednesday concerts at Temple Adat Ari El in North Hollywood with free coffee and light refreshments at intermission.

The Baltimore Sun wrote after one concert, “The Aspen players -- violinist David Perry, violist Victoria Chiang, cellist Michael Mermagen -- demonstrated tight ensemble playing, spot-on intonation and an effective way of digging into a phrase.”

The other scheduled events include the Piano Trio Voce (November), California String Quartet, Ronald Leonard, cello (February), Avalon String Quartet (March), Borromeo String Quartet (April), Henschel String Quartet (May).

The Music Guild also presents twenty-four elementary school concerts annually and supplies musical instruments to students.

"Some of the best groups in the world visit the Southland under the auspices of The Music Guild," said the Los Angeles Times.
