Classical Music News for January/February 2014:

MUSIC GUILD'S PIANO ADOPTION PROGRAM

The Music Guild, the famed L.A. chamber-music organization, has launched a "Piano Adoption Program." This past year, over one hundred pianos were placed in schools, VA facilities, Alzheimer residences, and other non-profit institutions. The pianos were donated by people who were either moving or downsizing and found that owning a piano was a luxury they could no longer afford or did not have room for.

Through the Music Guild's free service, the pianos were "adopted" by an institution which picked up the instrument and placed it in a new home, where students, patients or the elderly could enjoy the benefits.

To place a piano up for adoption, contact The Music Guild at 310-558-3500 or themusicguild.org.

The Music Guild is kicking off 2014 with two special package deals: three concerts for $115 or four concerts for $150. This marks the start of the organization's 70th year of operation as a leader in classical concerts for the L.A. metropolitan area.

The MG's next concert features the California String Quartet with Ronald Leonard on cello. Performances times are Feb. 3, 4, 5 at 8pm. The venues are Mondays at University Synagogue, Brentwood; Tuesdays at Daniel Recital Hall, Cal State Long Beach; Wednesdays at Adat Ari El Temple, N. Hollywood. For tickets and information, call 310-558-3500 or e-mail: concerts@themusicguild.org
