LOS ANGELES MASTER CHORALE
Los Angeles Master Chorale will commence its new season, Sept. 22 &
24, with a program at Disney Hall consisting of Leonard Bernsteins
CHICHESTER PALMS in honor of the composers centenary, paired with
Carl Orffs CARMINA BURANA.
A musical depiction of Bernsteins wish for brotherhood and peace,
blending biblical Hebrew verse and Christian choral tradition, CHICHESTER
PSALMS features some of the most tender, hope-filled music Bernstein ever
composed.
Orffs shamelessly popular and wildly rambunctious CARMINA BURANA
depicts medieval revelry and celebrates all the pleasures to be found
in life-and at the concert hall.
One hundred singers plus a full orchestra will back up the lead singers:
So Young Park, soprano; Nicholas Phan, tenor; and Stephen Powell, baritone.
Grant Gershon conducts the Los Angeles Childrens Chorus.
On Sunday,
October 29 guest conductor Maria Guinand will lead L.A. Master Chorale
in a performance of DIA DE LOS MUERTOS. Timed to coincide with Mexicos
vibrant Day of the Dead, the concert will explore a range of Latin American
songs and music in honor of the ancestors who came before us-and
the lives we share with each other.
Rodolfo Halfter, Alberto Grau, Leo Brouwer, Diana Syrse and Alberto Ginastera
are the main singers, backed up by an a cappella chorus of 62 voices.
At Disney Hall. Call 213-972-7282 or visit lamasterchorale.org
