Classical Music News for November/December 2019

December will be a hectic month for LOS ANGELES MASTER CHORALE, with the following recitals being mounted that month at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Saturday Dec. 7 & Sat. Dec 14: FESTIVAL OF CAROLS. Celebrate the holidays with LAMC's annual selection of treasured carols and songs, conducted by artist-in-residence Eric Whitacre. The recital includes traditional favorites, newer arrangements, and some seasonal surprises. 100 voices, organ.

Sunday Dec. 15: O MAGNUM MYSTERIUM. A classic from the moment LAMC premiered it 25 years ago, Morten Laurindsen's O MAGNUM MYSTERIUM is performed around the world. A responsorial chant from the Matins of Christmas, the piece is a much-favored fixture of holiday programs and is presented here alongside Victoria's 16th-century setting. Also on the program is the West Coast premiere of THE FAIRE STARRE by Nico Muhly. Grant Gershon conducts. 62 voices, instrumental ensemble.

Saturday Dec. 21: HANDEL'S MESSIAH. The perennially popular MESSIAH is a Christmas concert experience not to be missed. Grant Gershon conducts. 48 voices, chamber orchestra, soloists.
